Claire Vickers

I originally graduated with an English degree from the University of Oxford, before going on to train and work as a teacher.  I then completed a Masters in Theoretical Psychoanalytic Studies at UCL, before deciding more recently to focus on the clinical side of psychology at Goldsmiths University, by studying for my Masters in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. Claire Vickers Oxford Talking Therapies

This is when I met with Tracy Avis who I worked with for more than 2 years and with whom I continue to have regular clinical supervision with as I pursue full accreditation with the British Association of Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapy (BABCP).

I practice in several settings in Oxfordshire at private clinics and at the Oxford Brookes University Staff Counselling Service.

I work with clients on a variety of issues, including:

  • Depression and low mood
  • All anxiety issues (such as Generalised Anxiety Disorder, panic disorder and health anxiety)

To extend my standard CBT training with these problems, I have studied a framework developed by David Burns, a key early developer of CBT, called TEAM-CBT (https://www.feelinggoodinstitute.com/what-is-team-cbt-therapy).

I have a particular interest in helping people with symptoms of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and phobias and have furthered my understanding of these difficulties by training in specialist strategies (Rumination-Focused ERP and Inference-based ERP) that can either:

  • Enhance traditional Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP),
  • Or be effective in cases where ERP alone is not fully successful

I offer therapy from an office in North Oxford (Summertown), or online via Zoom. I work with individual clients (adults over the age of 18), and am a registered member of the British Association of Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapy (BABCP) and am currently pursuing full accreditation.  I am also a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and work within their professional and ethical guidelines.

Currently, I am also working on a paper with my academic supervisor at Goldsmiths, looking at the relationship between therapeutic engagement and personality traits.
